The Matterhorn Matterhorn Ultra Race (CMUR70) is a mountaineering ultra trail race of 70 kilometres in length and 5,000 metres of positive altitude difference, circling the Matterhorn / Cervino in a clockwise direction. The CMUR, a race to be run in teams of two (in pairs) and in semi-self-sufficiency, organised by Cervino Sport Events SSD and CSAIn Valle d'Aosta, in collaboration with the municipality of Valtournenche, the Soccorso Alpino and the Società Guide del Cervino (Matterhorn Guide Society), is included in the international ITRA (International Trail Running Association) calendar.

The Cervino Matterhorn Ultra Race (CMUR70) is a 70 km alpine ultra trail with a positive elevation gain of 5,000 meters, which circles the Matterhorn/Cervino in a clockwise direction. The CMUR, a race to be completed in teams of two (pairs) and in semi-self-sufficiency, is organized by Cervino Sport Events SSD and CSAIn Valle d’Aosta, in collaboration with the Municipality of Valtournenche, the Alpine Rescue Service, and the Cervino Mountain Guides. It is included in the international calendar of the International Trail Running Association (ITRA).
Departure at 1:00 AM on Friday from Breuil Cervinia Valtournenche (AO); in the event of unfavorable weather forecasts, the departure may be postponed to one of the following two days (Saturday or Sunday).
The route is characterised by ultra-trail mountaineering, with passages in very isolated and high mountain areas with a difficulty level of EEA (experienced hikers with equipment), crossing two sections of glacier (mountaineering difficulty level PD, slightly difficult). It is recommended that you exercise extreme caution and assess your physical condition and abilities before continuing to the next checkpoint, especially before tackling the glacier and the section in Swiss territory.
The race is semi-self-sufficient, with each athlete required to carry at least one liter of water. Semi-self-sufficiency is defined as the ability to proceed independently between two refreshment points.
At each refreshment station, both members of the team must register; failure to do so will result in disqualification.
Staff from the organization and Alpine Rescue personnel (Alpine Guides) will be present along the route and in constant communication with the base.
Assistance to athletes is only allowed in the designated areas before the refreshment stations, marked with appropriate signage. Only one assistant per team is allowed access, and only for the duration of the team's stay in the area. It is prohibited to be accompanied along the route by anyone not registered for the race.
Registration can only be done in teams of two. The participation requirement for each team member is to be at least 18 years old and to hold a valid competitive sports fitness certificate for aerobic disciplines, issued by a sports medicine doctor and recognized in their country of residence, valid for the entire duration of the race. Athletes must carefully read the regulations in full and consider themselves fit for the racecourse.
Three separate rankings will be compiled based on team compositions:
For the collection of race bibs, it is sufficient for only one member of the team to be present. A valid identification document must be presented. If the bib is collected on behalf of another team, a written delegation must be provided. Race packs and race numbers will be handed out in front of the church in Breuil Cervinia.
By registering, competitors authorize the organizing company to use, free of charge and without territorial or time limitations, both still and moving images related to their participation in the Cervino Matterhorn Ultra Race
The voluntary registration and subsequent participation in the race indicate full acceptance of these regulations and any amendments that may be made. By registering, the participant also releases the organizers from any civil or criminal liability for damages to persons and/or property caused by or resulting from their actions.
Every athlete is required to have individual insurance covering search and rescue costs in Italy and Switzerland.
In the event of cancellation of the race due to force majeure, up to 15 days before the event, the organization may refund up to 80% of the registration fee paid, or athletes may choose to keep their registration valid for up to two subsequent editions of the canceled event, by making a specific request to the organization.
If a registered team decides to withdraw from the race, no refund of the entry fee will be provided, except for proven health reasons affecting at least one of the team members.
Each competitor must carry the following items for the entire duration of the race:
All decisions regarding disqualifications will be made at the sole discretion of the organization, which may decide on disqualification in the following cases:
All participants may be subject to anti-doping checks before, during, or after the race. In case of refusal or abstention, the same sanctions as those for a positive test will be applied (if even one member of the team is in this situation, both members will be disqualified).
Any appeals must be made exclusively via email (info@cervinosportevents.it) within 24 hours of the end of the event.
